Competition proposal for site-specific art in Humboldt Forum, Berlin Palace
Client: Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss
Architects: Franco Stella Architetto
Alles ist Wechselwirkung takes its starting point in the work of the Humboldt brothers and their holistic thinking in the late 1700s. The work points to the interplay and coherence existing between the complex structures of both nature and culture and its endeavour to grasp and arrange.
The project consists of a mural of individual prints of sorted rubbish in the form of various used objects, such as cardboard, textile, plastic, wood and metal. The prints simultaneously contain specific as well as abstract depictions of different recycled materials surrounded by rectangular frames, outlining the prints. In this way, the image elements represent an interplay between an interweaving and delimitation, complexity and clarity. With their hyper-complex forms and environments, the prints function as a representation of both nature and culture, while the framing schematically categorises the diversity.
