Deriving from an interest in the clean, empty image, the work series Hotel is an investigation of the hotelroom as an expression of a standardised and stylised spatial unity. The work series carries references to contemporary artist colleagues Cindy Sherman og Sophie Calle, however, where Sherman and Calle’s project is to accentuate the narrative, Guttormsen is motivated by depicting its absence. The hotel room and the uniformed woman (Guttormsen herself) become the symbol of absence itself, as well as the body’s placement in a non-loaded transit room.
